Holston Habitat for Humanity uses volunteer labor and contributions of money and materials to build simple, decent and affordable houses in partnership with low-income families in the Tri-Cities area. The standard two, three and four bedroom houses range from 880 to 1248 square feet.
The houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with no-interest loans.House prices in 2010 range from $59,000 to $85,000, depending on location and size.Monthly mortgage payments are between $300 and $400 and are recycled to finance homes for other families.
Each homeowner family invests 500 hours of volunteer labor (sweat equity) into the building of their home and into other Habitat projects.
