Longtime Holston Habitat for Humanity volunteer Mike Behal has been named the recipient for the statewide Outstanding Construction Volunteer of the Year Award.
Behal was selected from a pool of volunteers from across the state who serve at various Habitat for Humanity affiliates. This award recognizes Behal’s more than two decades of service, leadership and dedication to helping local families.
What began as a commitment to serve on Saturdays with First Baptist Church of Kingsport grew into a remarkable legacy of service that has impacted thousands of volunteers, homeowners, and community members.
"Mike represents the very best of Holston Habitat for Humanity," said Laura Kelly, executive director of Holston Habitat for Humanity. "His humble leadership, incredible work ethic, and genuine heart for serving others have made a lasting impact on our organization. He doesn't just build homes, he builds confidence, community, and hope. We often say, 'We wish we had 100 Mikes,' but we're incredibly grateful for the one we have."
Behal has contributed 1,739 volunteer hours to Holston Habitat over the past year and has logged more than 10,000 volunteer hours throughout his years of service. Outside of serving on the construction sites, Behal has also served on Holston Habitat’s Board of Directors and received the Elizabeth Ann Hay Volunteer of the Year Award in 2023.
Holston Habitat for Humanity is honored to recognize Mike Behal as the Outstanding Construction Volunteer of the Year and celebrates his extraordinary commitment to serving others and strengthening the communities we call home.
