40 years of homes, communities, and hope
Since 1985, Holston Habitat for Humanity has partnered with families and communities to create safe, stable homes and brighter futures.
Now, as we celebrate 40 years of service, we invite you to be part of a year-long journey of impact, inspiration, and action. Join us as we reflect on our legacy and continue building strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.

our story
In 1985, inspired by a student mission trip to Haiti and a visit to Habitat for Humanity’s headquarters in Georgia, Elizabeth Ann Hay helped spark the creation of Holston Habitat for Humanity. Alongside Jo Morrison and a passionate group of local leaders, they mobilized the community and earned Holston Habitat’s official charter that same year. One of just 100 Habitat affiliates in the U.S. at the time.
The first home was completed in Kingsport in 1987, and our service area soon expanded to include Johnson City, Elizabethton, and Bristol. Since then, Holston Habitat has partnered with 383 families locally—impacting over 697 children and 470 adults—and supported 300 additional families internationally through our tithe.
With the opening of our Kingsport ReStore in 1992 and Johnson City ReStore in 2017, community support has fueled our mission through donated goods and volunteer time. Today, we serve Sullivan, Washington, Unicoi, and Carter Counties in Tennessee and Bristol, Virginia, continuing to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
